Why Toolsift exists
I built Toolsift because I couldn't find an honest AI tool directory. Every "best AI tools" list I found was really just an affiliate link farm — tools ranked higher because they paid more commission, not because they were actually better. I kept subscribing to tools that turned out to be mediocre because the reviews I read were paid for.
So I built the resource I wished existed: independent reviews with no financial relationship with any tool we cover.
How we evaluate tools
Every tool listed on Toolsift goes through the same process:
- Minimum two weeks of active use — not a quick demo, but real tasks over real time.
- Specific test tasks — we define the task before opening the tool, so results are comparable across products.
- Free and paid tiers tested separately — because what a free plan can do matters as much as the paid version.
- Re-tested when major updates ship — AI tools change fast. A review from six months ago can be completely wrong today.
How we score
Every tool gets three scores out of 10:
- Overall — weighted score across all dimensions.
- Value — quality relative to what you actually pay.
- Expert score — hands-on verdict after real use, not a feature checklist.
How Toolsift makes money
Toolsift is funded by display advertising (Google AdSense) and, where disclosed, affiliate links. No tool has ever paid to be listed, reviewed or ranked higher. Where we include affiliate links they are clearly marked and they never influence our scores or editorial opinions. No sponsored content. If you see an ad on this site, it is a standard display ad served by Google — it has nothing to do with which tools we recommend.
This model means our revenue comes from readers visiting the site, not from tool companies paying us. Our editorial independence is the whole point.

Who's behind Toolsift
Toolsift is an independent project. I'm a solo founder who got tired of biased AI tool reviews and decided to build something better. I use AI tools daily for my own work, which means I have a genuine stake in knowing which ones are actually worth paying for.
